In Brief: US Legislators Put Medical Device Tax Back on Ice

US lawmakers have delayed reestablishing the Medical Device Excise Tax (MDET) by another two years as part of a short-term government funding arrangement.

US Medical Device Excise Tax (MDET) delayed until 2020The new MDET moratorium puts off medical device manufacturers’ tax obligations until January 2020; the last MDET moratorium enacted by Congress had expired in December 2017, prompting industry to gear up yet again for compliance.

Now, although legislators and industry trade groups have yet to fully repeal MDET, industry has at least two more years in which they will not be levied the 2.3% tax on their US revenues.
