The chart below shows the total spending on healthcare in 2010 according to data compiled by the World Health Organization (WHO). This chart gives you an idea of how much the top countries in the Asia Pacific region spend annually on healthcare for its citizens, and the rate of growth during the last five years. In Asia, Japan spends far more than China even though it was less than one tenth the population of China. As you can see, Japan spends nearly 20 times more per person on healthcare than its much large neighbor. This will change quickly. Healthcare spending in China during the last five years has grown nearly five times faster than Japan and at that rate it will pass Japan in total healthcare spending within the next ten years. Even a country like India with 1.224 billion people spends less on healthcare than Australia, with a mere 22 million people.
